LOUDER GIRL DECLARES JUNE IS GOOD TROUBLE MONTH

Jun 01, 2026

And no, we didn’t ask for permission.

LOUDER GIRL officially declares June 2026:

GOOD TROUBLE Awareness Month

Not because some federal agency approved it.
Not because a committee signed off.
Not because someone in power told us we could.
We claimed it ourselves.
Because women do not need permission to:

  • Tell the truth
  • Take up space
  • Challenge harmful systems
  • Protect our peace
  • Speak louder
  • Want more

And honestly?

That seems to make people uncomfortable.

Good.

“Too Much” Is Usually a Woman Telling the Truth

Last week I published:

LOUDER GIRL GETS IN GOOD TROUBLE

It explored my evolution from:

  • “too emotional”
  • “too opinionated”
  • “too dramatic”
  • “too loud”

…to realizing those labels were never about me.

They were about control.

Women are called “too much” the moment we:

  • stop shrinking
  • stop apologizing
  • stop performing “good girl”
  • stop making ourselves easy to digest

Now?

I wear those labels like badges.

Because if telling the truth disrupts the status quo, maybe the status quo deserves disrupting.

What is “Good Trouble”?

Civil rights icon John Lewis coined the phrase “good trouble” to describe peaceful, necessary disruption in the fight against injustice.

LOUDER GIRL believes GOOD TROUBLE also lives in everyday acts of courage.

Not just marches and megaphones.

But moments like:

  • Saying no without explaining
  • Resting instead of proving
  • Leaving the relationship
  • Laughing too loud
  • Taking up space
  • Wearing the damn outfit
  • Asking for more money
  • Speaking up in the meeting
  • Crying openly
  • Choosing joy
  • Telling the truth about our lives

That’s good trouble too.

Women Causing Good Trouble

“I’ve stopped apologizing.”
— Makenna L.

That’s it.

That’s the revolution.

Today, I embrace my loudness, my enthusiasm. I bring the party to the party.”

She’s ditching the shame she’s felt for decades.

She’s stepping into her big, beautiful, loud self.

But she’s choosing herself too.

That is GOOD TROUBLE.

“Laughter, movement, and play every day are my ways to get into good trouble.”— Larissa Johnson

YES.

Because joy is resistance too.

Formula For Fun

For nearly 30 years, Larissa Johnson has been helping people reconnect with joy through:

  • laughter
  • movement
  • play
  • connection

And honestly?

That might be some of the most radical leadership work happening right now.

We are in a Fun Drought

Larissa shared a truth that hit me hard:

Adults, especially women, are taught to:

  • caretake instead of play
  • produce instead of rest
  • be “good” instead of joyful
  • earn pleasure instead of experiencing it

Those are lies.

We have normalized exhaustion.

We celebrate burnout.

We glorify self-sacrifice.

And then we wonder why women feel disconnected from themselves.

Fun is NOT Frivolous

Larissa believes laughter, movement, and play are necessary for our wellbeing.

And research backs her up.

When people laugh, move, and play together:

  • stress decreases
  • connection increases
  • creativity expands
  • problem-solving improves
  • nervous systems regulate

In other words:

Joy heals.

The Story that Broke Me Open

My mother, my best friend, was diagnosed with COPD many years ago so her oxygen levels were never optimal (ranging between 92-95 on a good day). But when we laughed together for 15 minutes, her oxygen levels went up to 97/98 and stayed there for at least two hours afterwards.

Laughter literally changed her body.

And after losing:

  • her father to cancer
  • her aunt to brain cancer
  • and later her mother unexpectedly

…Larissa still returned to her weekly laughter sessions.

Six days after losing her mom, she logged onto Zoom and laughed for 15 minutes.

Because joy and grief can exist together.

Because healing is not linear.

Because sometimes survival looks like laughing through tears.

What if Joy is a Leadership Practice

LOUDER GIRL talks a lot about courage.

But maybe courage also looks like:

  • dancing in your kitchen
  • laughing loudly in public
  • going outside
  • taking the trip
  • becoming visible to yourself

Maybe joy is not distraction from the work.

Maybe joy IS the work.

Larissa's Good Trouble Practices

Every morning:

  • Laugh for 60 seconds

Every day:

  • Move her body
  • Dance
  • Walk
  • Teach movement
  • Play
  • Explore nature
  • Spend intentional time with people she loves

What is Larissa done apologizing for?

Laughing out loud.

Not fake texting “LOL.”

Actually laughing.

Fully. Loudly. Openly.

For the Woman Who Feels "Too Much"

Larissa’s message:

“When in doubt, laugh it out.”

And mine?

Stop apologizing for your aliveness.

You were never meant to live muted.

This Month's Good Trouble Challenge

Cause one small, necessary disruption this week.

Maybe you:

  • say no
  • tell the truth
  • ask for help
  • rest
  • laugh louder
  • wear the thing
  • speak first
  • stop overexplaining
  • take up space
  • choose joy

Tiny rebellions matter.

Especially the ones that bring you back to yourself.
